The contract has a total value of approximately EUR 99 million (USD 109.3 million) in which DEME’s subsidiaries Nordsee Nassbagger- und Tiefbau and Dredging International will handle the marine dredging works. The eastern part of the Kiel Canal will be expanded from 44 m to a future minimum bottom width of 70 m, enabling larger ships to cross safely in this area.As explained, the widening contributes significantly to increasing the efficiency of the waterway, which is important for international shipping.Extensive landscaping measures will be carried out as part of the expansion of the canal cross-section. In total, around 2 million cbm of soil are to be moved, around 58,000 square meters of revetments are to be installed and over 1 million cbm of soil are to be dredged and dumped.Last year, DEME also won another major deepening contract in Germany. Following the completion of the initial widenings of the Elbe, mega-ships with a combined width of up to 98 meters can now pass each other in a widened section of the Elbe known as the ‘passing box’.last_img read more

Google Combines Free Storage On Gmail, Google+ & Drive: 15GB Total

first_imgRelated Posts Google announced Monday that it has combined its free storage options across multiple apps, making it easier to manage how much space you’re using in Google Drive, Gmail, and Google+. Previously users had to separately track the 10GB of free space allotted for Gmail and the 5GB of free space allotted for Drive. Now, they have 15GB of unified space to use among all the Google apps, and any additional storage they purchase can be used wherever it is most needed. To put these changes in perspective, Google offered a clear example: Maybe you’re a heavy Gmail user but light on photos, or perhaps you were bumping up against your Drive storage limit but were only using 2 GB in Gmail. Now it doesn’t matter, because you can use your storage the way you want.Check out a screenshot of the new storage management tool and soon-to-come storage option changes below:  Tags:#gmail#Google#Google Apps#google drive#now#storage Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting Serverless Backups: Viable Data Protection for …center_img How Intelligent Data Addresses the Chasm in Cloud readwrite Cloud Hosting for WordPress: Why Everyone is Mo…last_img read more

Remnants of the 1947 partition

first_imgSeven decades have passed since the Partition of 1947 and still remnants of it continue to linger only latently in public memories and histories. The exhibition at India International Centre (IIC), by The 1947 Partition Archive, will unravel the memories of people who witnessed the days of the Divide. This multimedia exhibit will highlight the socio–cultural ethnography and memory of the Partition by bringing forth those voices that have otherwise been unheard; the story of a woman still living in a refugee camp, separated from her daughter due to the man–made border, how two brothers converted to Islam to remain on their land while their sister made her way across to India, and how two brothers travelled from Travancore State to the North–West Frontier Province in search of work and were stranded there due to the Divide. Also Read – Add new books to your shelfEach and every panel of this exhibit presents a unique first-hand experience and displays how the pivotal event that determined the subcontinent’s contemporary history continues to influence society even today. These narratives are from all around the globe, with a special focus on subversive narratives through the lens of class, caste, and gender. The choice of regional locations is diverse and also brings to light the narratives of Partition that are often never considered as part of popular imaginary. This exhibition invites, for the very first, public audiences to engage with exemplary oral histories collected by The 1947 Partition Archive, over the last eight years. Curated by Aanchal Malhotra, it is an exhibition that marries the notions of history, memoir, longing and belonging. ‘Remembering partition: unheard stories’ is on view till September 8, everyday from 11 am to 7 pm at the Art Gallery, Kamaldevi Complex, IIC.last_img read more

The Greenfield University Amendment Bill 2019 passed in state Assembly

first_imgKolkata/Darjeeling: The Greenfield University (Amendment) Bill 2019 was passed in the state Assembly on Wednesday with the objective to change the name of Greenfield University to Darjeeling Hills University inrecognition to the persistent demand of the people of the Hills to change the name of the varsity. “Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited the Hills several times since 2011 and has always shown her commitmenttowards development of the Hills and respect to the demand of the local people. The people in the Hills have urged her to change the name of the varsity and so the amendment to change the name has been proposed,” said state Education minister Partha Chatterjee while placing the Bill in the Assembly. The state Higher Education department has already sent its proposal of sanctioning Rs 333 crores for construction of the varsity to the state Finance department. “The Public Works Department (PWD) will execute the construction work,” Chatterjee said. It may be mentioned that the state Assembly had passed a Bill on July 31 last year to set up Greenfield University at Jogighat in Mungpoo. Also Read – Lightning kills 8, injures 16 in stateSoon after the bill was tabled, sections of the hill community were of the opinion that the varsity should be named Darjeeling Hill University so that it would strike a chord with the local people. “It was ready to be tabled in the February session in the Assembly but with the ensuing elections it could not be tabled during that time,” Chatterjee said. Left Front leader Sujan Chakraborty demanded that the Bill should be sent to the select committee to elicit opinion of the MLAs while Congress MLA Nepal Mahato also wanted it to be circulated among the MLAs for eliciting opinion. However, the Bill was passed after majority of the MLAs voted in support of the Bill. Darjeeling has welcomed the change in name of the Greenfield University to the Darjeeling Hill University. The demand for a university in the Hills of Darjeeling has been long pending. Though the Union Government during the formation of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration had assured of a Central University for the Hills, it had not translated into action. A Memorandum of Agreement between the Union, State and the GJM that had paved the way for the GTA had also mentioned the creation of a Central University. The state government decided to come up with a new university in the Darjeeling hills. Finally on July 31, 2018, “Greenfield University Bill” was passed in the West Bengal Assembly “I as the MLA, Darjeeling and Binoy Tamang as the Chairman, Gorkhaland Territorial Administration had written to the State Government suggesting amendments. We wanted the name to carry the identity of Darjeeling as Darjeeling is known globally as an education hub. Darjeeling in itself is a brand name,” said Amar Singh Rai, former MLA, Darjeeling. The Hills have welcomed the change in nomenclature to “Darjeeling Hill University.” “We thank the state government for the change in name,” Tamang said. He stated that with the change in nomenclature, the state government and the GTA will start construction at the area already earmarked in Jogighat, Mongpu. Till the construction is complete, the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar’s offices will be operating from the existing Tukdah Engineering College on a temporary basis. There are many government buildings vacant in Mongpu, these buildings will also be used for the University on a temporary basis. “Before the elections the process for selection of Vice-Chancellor for the university had begun. Three names have already been empanelled,” stated Tamang.last_img read more
