Exclusive – Southgate in no hurry to fast track England youngsters

first_imgEngland U21 manager Gareth Southgate revealed he is in no hurry to fast track the nation’s emerging talent.Speaking to Mark Saggers and Alvin Martin on talkSPORT, Southgate explained the more England’s young charges stay together, the more they will experience being successful as a group, something he hopes can be carried into the senior side.England’s U17 team won the European Championship in May and, according to Southgate, playing in big tournaments at youth level and reaching the latter stages is good for development as a group.“We’re trying to prepare them for [first team manager Roy Hodgson] so they can be a success when they go there. It’s not just a target to get into the seniors, we want them to get in and do really well.“We’re not in a hurry to fast track the youngsters through the junior teams.
