Berlin’s Karen and Brian Zecchinelli Named Champions of Small Business

first_imgBERLIN’S KAREN AND BRIAN ZECCHINELLI NAMED CHAMPIONS OF SMALL BUSINESS Karen and Brian Zecchinelli, owners of the Wayside Restaurant and Bakery in Berlin, have been named the 2005 Vermont Champion of Small Business by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB). Karen takes pride in the continued operation of her independent family business as well as providing her 75 full and part-time employees excellent wages and benefits, said Shawn Banfield, state director of the NFIB/Vermont chapter. The national honor was conferred on the Zecchinellis by the Leadership Council of the NFIB/Vermont chapter. Each year, NFIB singles out a small-business owner in all 50 states for special recognition and honors them with its prestigious Small Business Champion award. This is the second year the national NFIB has awarded small-business owners who go the extra mile for Main Street businesses and mom-and-pop companies. A 35-year NFIB member, the Zecchinellis are third-generation operators of the Wayside Restaurant. The Galfetti Family opened the business in 1918 and is now known coast-to-coast for quality home cooked food, excellent service and reasonable prices that serve over 1000 customers each day. Karen and Brian always respond to a call to actionwhether it is responding to a ballot, faxing a note to a legislator to make a point on a specific piece of legislation and working hard on local issues that impact Main Street businesses, said Banfield She noted that the Wayside Restaurant is closely connected to the community; Karen is active in the Methodist Church and serves as chairman of the Administrative Board, and she was also was very active with the Central Vermont Chamber of Commerce.
