first_imgHysaj agent alerts Chelsea with fresh Napoli transfer warningby Carlos Volcano10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveThe agent of Elseid Hysaj won’t rule out leaving Napoli in January. The fullback was close to joining Chelsea last summer.”He could have gone with [Maurizio] Sarri to Chelsea, but Ancelotti blocked everything,” Mario Giuffredi fumed on Radio Marte.“He even publicly said recently that he was counting on him for this last period, but the facts say that in the last four games, Hysaj has only played one.“Therefore that probably means he’s not too important for the Coach. If Ancelotti no longer considers him a starter, and wants to remove the disturbance, we’ll do it.“Hysaj doesn’t deserve this bad treatment, considering how much he’s given Napoli in the last three years, and also because it’s professionally correct to be clear in life.“Maybe it’s just a transitional phase, but every Coach makes his choices and it’s right that’s the case. So if Hysaj has become fourth choice it’s only right they communicate that to us.“If this is a transitional phase we’ll soon see Hysaj as a starter again, or at the very least playing more consistently, but if Hysaj is no longer valued by the Coach we’ll ask for a transfer in January.” TagsTransfersAbout the authorCarlos VolcanoShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

first_imgArsenal boss Emery: We’ll keep playing out from the backby Paul Vegasa month agoSend to a friendShare the loveUnai Emery admits Arsenal must improve their passing out from the back for Thursday’s Europa League clash with Eintracht Frankfurt. The Gunners’ sloppy distribution against Watford on Saturday saw them blow a two-goal lead to settle for a draw. And Emery is expecting similar high pressure from Frankfurt on Thursday.”To learn is first to have analysis on how we can improve, how we can recover our confidence playing with our objectives, starting and controlling the match, what we are doing with the ball.”Really on Sunday we needed more, that’s what we wanted. We made some mistakes and conceded some goals.”We spoke and we are working yesterday and today on how we can play tomorrow. Frankfurt are usually doing a very high press, with very fast players around the opponents.”Tomorrow we need to improve on the mistakes we made on Sunday to do better. Also we want to achieve another way on the pitch, how we can break the pressing.”After we want to control every game with the ball, with the positioning. We did that on Sunday in the first half, but in the second half we didn’t. And tomorrow is a new challenge, how we are improving, our positioning, our control and our ability to break the press.”Also how we can play the long ball and make some actions in the attacking third, to get the ball, to score and to win the match. Tomorrow is another challenge for us to show we can improve from the game on Sunday.” About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

It is just a case of how you grasp that.”If you’d said to me a year ago that I would now be playing regularly for Manchester United and Wales I’d have said: ‘Don’t be silly’.”But things happen so quickly in football and you have to be ready for anything.”It is a very proud moment for me to be playing for my country every time I’m picked. I suspect he could be.”I see a centre back in the 20-year-old and that is where his future could lie for club and country, rather than being used solely in midfield.”In the modern game, players are being told to pass it out from the back, and Rice is capable of executing that.”He’d be more than happy to get on the ball and has the intelligence needed to form an effective centre back partnership.”Watch West Ham and you’ll see this young man is excellent at what he does. In the Premier League this season, only two midfielders have made more tackles than Rice.”He also ranks fourth for interceptions and seventh for ball recoveries. I believe he could apply those talents to central defence, too, while being the proficient passer Gareth Southgate wants.” last_img read more

Both teams needed to impose themselves physically and with quality. We imposed our game plan in our moment and this victory is a consequence of this and we are pleased with this.”Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang proved to be the difference between the teams, with the Gabon international scoring twice to take him to the summit of the Premier League scoring charts.Once again, though, it was Mesut Ozil who caught the headlines , with the playmaker handed the captain’s armband, despite his inability to hold down a regular starting berth. “He played very well, very well,” Emery said but refused to confirm whether the German will start on Boxing Day. “We want a result like today. Today we won, tomorrow we have off, Monday we will prepare for the match on Wednesday at Brighton.”The Seagulls have lost their last three in the Premier League but sit nine points clear of the drop zone as the halfway point of the season approaches so there is little need for panic.Despite the 2-0 loss against Bournemouth on Saturday , manager Chris Hughton was more than satisfied with what he saw.“I was really pleased with our performance, particularly in the first half. It was tough to come in at the break 1-0 down but it’s about making sure you take your chances,” he said.Indeed, he was keen to look ahead to the Boxing Day clash with a sense of optimism.“These are the types of games we have worked incredibly hard to be involved in,” he said, speaking of his team’s tough festive programme.“When they come about you can’t fear them. It’s very difficult as manager to look forward to those type of games, because you know the magnitude of them, but we have proved we can get a result in any game.“They are the challenges we have and we’ll continue to have those challenges.” Check out Goal’s Premier League 2019-20 fantasy football podcast for game tips, debate and rivalries.last_img read more

Guardiola backs ‘spectacular’ Valverde to remain at Barca

‘Futile for Spurs to try and keep Eriksen’

first_imgTottenham have been warned that trying to keep Christian Eriksen is “futile”, with club legend Ossie Ardiles calling on Mauricio Pochettino to part with a player being linked with Real Madrid. The 27-year-old playmaker has been a key man for Spurs over recent years and he is considered to have become one of the finest creative influences in the Premier League, with his assist numbers proving to be a match for any of his rivals in the English top flight. It is that ability which is said to have caught the eye of those at the Santiago Bernabeu. Ox-rated! Dream night in Genk for Liverpool ace after injury nightmare Eriksen is into the final year of his contract at Tottenham and is considered to be ready to take on a new challenge.Ardiles believes the Denmark international should be granted that wish, with there little point in Spurs retaining the services of a player who is no longer fully committed to the cause. The iconic Argentine told talkSPORT of the speculation surrounding Eriksen: “It looks to me like he has put his mind on a move – that he wants to go somewhere else.“And if that is the case it’s futile for the club to try and keep a player when he wants to leave.“I won’t say he’s not happy with us, because he is, but his mind is trying to play somewhere else, and the best thing is to part company.”Mauricio Pochettino SpursWhile Eriksen may be moved on, Spurs have started to dip back into the transfer market. Two windows passed with no additions made to Pochettino’s squad, but deals have been tied up this summer with Leeds and Lyon for promising winger Jack Clarke and highly-rated midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.Ardiles feels focus is shifting to the future, with Tottenham looking to bring in more players with potential. He added: “People were speculating about who Mauricio was going to buy, but no one has the slightest clue except for Mauricio.“But you can see right now the way he does things; he likes to buy young players and put a lot of his influence on them, and take it from there.“People like Dele Alli for example.”last_img read more

‘Kane might have to leave Tottenham’

first_imgHarry Kane may have to consider leaving Tottenham in order to fulfil his ambition of landing major silverware, claims Dimitar Berbatov.Back in 2008, one star striker on the books in north London decided that he needed a move in order to compete for the biggest prizes in world football.Berbatov traded life at Spurs for that at Manchester United and went on to become a Premier League title winner. Article continues below Editors’ Picks Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? Ox-rated! Dream night in Genk for Liverpool ace after injury nightmare Messi a man for all Champions League seasons – but will this really be Barcelona’s? He has now suggested that Kane may have to tread a similar path, with Tottenham having so far been unable to deliver tangible success for the England captain.Mauricio Pochettino is doing all he can to end a barren run, with more big-money arrivals expected on transfer deadline day, but exits are also being mooted as experienced figures begin to look for new challenges.Berbatov told The Sun on the future of a prolific frontman: “Someone needs to ask Harry Kane about what he will do if Spurs don’t win a trophy this season.“Coming from that point of view, and I’ve been in those shoes, the moment comes when you play for a team for a while and you don’t win anything.“At the same time you see other colleagues that you are playing with in the national team, and they are winning trophies.Harry Kane, Tottenham, Champions League final“You get jealous, in a good way. You’re like ‘I want to be part of that’.“You start asking all these questions and at one moment nothing changes, you change the environment, you change the club.“It’s a tough decision because fans will be disappointed — and so will the coach.“What is that ambition telling him? Stay here and try to win trophies for my club that I’m captain of. Or find a new challenge where you need to test yourself.“The question is, if he moves, for example to Manchester United, is he going to be playing with better players and scoring more?“I was thinking about that when I moved.“Every player who wants to achieve and develop and grow as a player is thinking about that.“You’re sitting at home, you’re watching a game, big players, big teams are playing and you think ‘what if I was there, am I going to score more goals?’“It’s normal to think like this.“Then you start thinking ‘Well I stay here because I’m in the place that I know, I’m comfortable’.“You need to choose — test yourself or stay in the same place? Trust me, it’s a complicated situation.”Kane is tied to a long-term contract through to 2024 and, after recording 164 goals in just 253 appearances for Spurs, has offered no indication that he is considering a switch elsewhere.last_img read more

Report: PSG 3-0 Nimes

first_imgParis Saint-Germain’s attacking talents stepped up in the absence of Neymar as the champions began their Ligue 1 title defence with a 3-0 win over Nimes on Sunday.Neymar was left out amid ongoing speculation over his future, but Edinson Cavani, Kylian Mbappe and Angel Di Maria were all on target at the Parc des Princes.Champions in six of the last seven seasons, Cavani got the ball rolling for PSG with a contentious first-half penalty that was followed by a well-taken strike from Mbappe. 10 College Football Rivalries That Actually Suck

first_imgUrban Meyer talking to Jim Harbaugh after the Ohio State, Michigan gameANN ARBOR, MI – NOVEMBER 25: Urban Meyer head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Jim Harbaugh head coach of the Michigan Wolverines shake hands after the game. Ohio State won 31 to 20 on November 25, 2017 at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Michigan. (Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)The popularity of college football is built on its rivalries. Fan bases – right or wrong – often judge an entire season based on how their favorite team performs in its rivalry contests. Just ask Alabama fans – in a season that they won the national title last year, many are still incredibly upset that the team lost to in-state rival Auburn. The sport features a number of huge rivalries – but the games themselves don’t always deliver. In fact, there are a number of rivalries that have started to get stale. Some rivalries don’t have great fan support anymore. Some have become lopsided based on team quality. Others could be great, but haven’t been because the two teams haven’t been good at the same time.Let’s take a look at 10 major rivalry games that actually suck – at least in recent history.10. Virginia Tech vs. Virginia (Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)Virginia and Virginia Tech have played 99 times, and while the series record isn’t incredibly lopsided (57-37-5 in favor of the Hokies) its recent history has been awful. Virginia hasn’t beaten its in-state rival since 2003.For those counting, that’s 14 straight victories for Virginia Tech. Not every game has been a blowout, but it’s fair to say that most fans, heading into the game, assume that the Hokies will win.It doesn’t help that Virginia Tech is no longer considered a national power either. As such, fans are left with a predictable outcome in a game that doesn’t really shape the national landscape.9. Stanford vs. California (Photo by Stephen Lam/Getty Images)The Big Game, as its called, hasn’t really been a big deal for a while. Why? Because Cal has become somewhat of a second-rate program in the Pac-12. Stanford has actually won the last eight matchups between the two. From 2002-2009, Cal won seven of the eight contests. Before that, from 1995-2001, Stanford won all seven. The bottom line? The two programs haven’t been good at the same time in a long time. That makes for a crappy rivalry series – even if fans still remember it as one of the best in college football.8. Georgia vs. Georgia Tech (Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)If you asked the average football fan about the rivalry between Georgia and Georgia Tech, most would assume that the Bulldogs have owned the Yellow Jackets since the beginning of time. That’s because since 2001, Georgia has a 14-3 record against its in-state rival. It’s all that most people remember. In reality, this was once a great series. The Bulldogs do lead it overall, but it isn’t as lopsided (66-41-5) as many would believe.Georgia is a full-on behemoth of a college football program. Georgia Tech, while somewhat successful, is not. It’s hard to have a great rivalry when one program is head and shoulders above the other when it comes to fan support, too.7. Florida vs. Florida State (Photo by Rob Foldy/Getty Images)Some may question why this one is on here, considering both programs have won national titles in the 21st century. The answer? Timing.Florida and Florida State has essentially taken turns being nationally relevant over the past dozen years. From 2004-2009, Florida won every matchup between these two – with the Gators winning two national titles in that time span. But since 2010, it has been all Florida State. The Seminoles are 7-1 against their main in-state rival in that span – adding a national title of their own. So yes, these programs are significant. But they haven’t been great at the same time since the 1990s-early 2000s.6. Florida vs. Tennessee (Photo by Streeter Lecka/Getty Images)Tennessee fans probably won’t be thrilled with where this list heads. Their first appearance comes in their rivalry series against the Florida Gators. Here’s a crazy stat – Tennessee won 13 of the first 15 matchups between the two schools. But Florida owns the overall record, 27-20. That means that the Gators have dominated the Vols in recent history. In fact, since 2005, Florida owns a 12-1 record against Tennessee. It’s a depressing set of numbers that Tennessee fans are very aware of.5. Oregon vs. Oregon State Oregon's cheerleaders during the Fiesta Bowl.(Photo by Doug Pensinger/Getty Images)The Civil War was one of the more entertaining college football rivalry games in the late 1990s and early 2000s. But when Oregon became a national power in the late 2000s, it got ugly. Between 2008 and 2015, the Ducks won every matchup between the two.Oregon State snuck in a win during a down season for Oregon in 2016, but last year, the Ducks won 69-10.Oregon State is a struggling program right now. Oregon isn’t a title contender anymore. This game certainly isn’t what it once was.4. Ohio State vs. Michigan (Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)Yes, Michigan leads the all-time series between these two schools. Still, this game is on this list because of Ohio State’s dominance.Yes, Michigan gave Ohio State all it could handle in 2016. Yes, the Wolverines almost stole a win in 2013 but lost on a failed two-point conversion. But it’s fair to say that this rivalry has fallen off. Michigan has beaten Ohio State just once since 2004. In that time span, Ohio State has been a national power. Michigan has not.Jim Harbaugh will have Shea Patterson under center this year, so maybe the Wolverines can get this game off the list.3. Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State (Photo by Brett Deering/Getty Images)The casual college football fan hears “Bedlam” and likely assumes that Oklahoma and Oklahoma State have been competitive over the years. Nope.Oklahoma owns an 87-18-7 record against Oklahoma State. The Cowboys have been more competitive in recent years, but the Sooners have still been better. Since 2003, Oklahoma has beaten its main in-state rival all but twice. The games are often shootouts, but far more often than not, they end in Oklahoma’s favor.2. Wisconsin vs. Minnesota Madison's players celebrate a win over Minnesota.(Photo by Mike McGinnis/Getty Images)Wisconsin has won the last 14 games between these two – meaning Paul Bunyan’s Axe hasn’t switched locker rooms in a very long time. The Badgers actually just took the series lead, too – 60-59-8. Minnesota once owned this rivalry.Unfortunately, on top of just the recent record, the games haven’t been close. Only four of the 14 straight losses came by one score or less.Plus, while Wisconsin has been relevant on a national level, Minnesota has not. This one will probably get worse before it gets better.1. Alabama vs. Tennessee A fan holds up a sign for head coach Nick Saban of the Alabama Crimson Tide during the game against the Tennessee Volunteers.(Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)The Third Saturday in October has not been very entertaining in recent years. From 1995-2006, Tennessee owned a 10-2 record against its cross-division rival. Since 2007, it’s been the exact opposite. Alabama, under Nick Saban, has not lost to the Vols. The games have been rough, too. Aside from a 12-10 affair in 2009 and a 19-14 game in 2015, Alabama has dominated its rival. Blowouts, as you’d imagine, are an easy way to wind up on top of this list.Tennessee has a new head coach in Jeremy Pruitt, but as long as Saban stays in Alabama, it’s hard to see this series getting any more competitive.last_img read more

(Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)Notre Dame’s Jafar Armstrong suffered an injury early on in the season opener versus Louisville. It’s a big loss for the Fighting Irish. Armstrong was expected to be one of their main offensive contributors in 2019. But it looks like he will be able to return to the field later this season.ND head coach Brian Kelly gave an update on Armstrong during his Monday morning press conference.“He’s a good player,” Kelly said, via 247Sports. “We will be without him for a few weeks. It’s an injury that requires some time. To put an exact time on it, it’s hard to say. Julian Okwara didn’t have surgery, but had a similar injury. He was about four weeks. No timetable, but he’s a very good player that gives us versatility. We’re confident in our backs. Avery Davis is back on the offensive side of the ball.”According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg, Armstrong “had surgery to repair a torn abdominal muscle.” Armstrong was recruited as a wide receiver out of high school. He came to Notre Dame as a 3-star prospect and redshirted during his freshman year.Last season, Armstrong rushed for 383 yards on 72 carries and seven touchdowns. He also added 14 catches for 159 yards. The Fighting Irish would love to have Armstrong back considering their brutal strength of schedule. Notre Dame plays Georgia, Michigan, USC, Virginia and Stanford among others throughout 2019.last_img read more

Oklahoma defeated Oklahoma State 51-48 in overtime. (Photo by Brett Deering/Getty Images)A group of Oklahoma fans took the long (and presumably expensive) trip to southern California this weekend to see the Sooners take on the UCLA Bruins at the Rose Bowl. After everything that happened, they more than got their money’s worth.Oklahoma destroyed UCLA, winning 48-14. But it was after the game where the experience became truly memorable.A photo shared by the Sooner Football Fans Podcast shows that former Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops was at the game too. In fact, after the game he noticed the fans joined them for a group photo. For good measure, he joined the fans in doing a Horns-down gesture too. Stoops would later go on his own Twitter account to share the photo.Boomer Sooner— Bob Stoops (@CoachBobStoops) September 15, 2019The former Oklahoma head coach left the team on good terms in 2016.He has since signed on with the XFL to be the head coach and general manager of the Dallas Renegades. But with no games to prepare for until the new year, Stoops seems more than content to serve as a fan of his former team. This probably won’t be the last time we see him in a candid moment with the Sooners this year.last_img read more

Ole Miss AD Releases Statement On Officiating vs. Cal

first_imgOle Miss players celebrate against the Arkansas Razorbacks.OXFORD, MISSISSIPPI – SEPTEMBER 07: Elijah Moore #8 of the Mississippi Rebels celebrates a touchdown during the first half against the Arkansas Razorbacks of a game at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on September 07, 2019 in Oxford, Mississippi. (Photo by Jonathan Bachman/Getty Images)An epic showdown between Ole Miss and Cal unfortunately ended with a controversial no-call from the officials. During the final seconds of the game, the officiating crew didn’t review a reception near the goal line.Ole Miss was driving down the field with a chance to send the game into overtime.Mississippi quarterback John Rhys Plumlee fired a pass to Elijah Moore toward the left side of the end zone. It appeared to be a touchdown to the fans in attendance and those watching on TV.Instead of calling it a touchdown or at least reviewing the play, the officials marked him down short. The Rebels frantically ran to the line of scrimmage to attempt a quarterback sneak, but they were stopped by star Cal linebacker Evan Weaver. Following the game, Ole Miss Athletics Director Keith Carter released a statement on the controversial ending. He’s clearly upset with the refs.“We are extremely disappointed with the officiating at the end of the game and are expecting a full explanation from the PAC-12 regarding the call and subsequent non-review of the 3rd down play. We feel strongly that the play should have been reviewed by the PAC-12 officials in the review booth. Even if the play didn’t result in a touchdown, the spot of the ball on 4th down was questionable.”Many fans have contacted me about the officiating at the end of the game. Here is our official statement. @pac12 @OleMissFB— Keith Carter (@KeithCarterOM) September 21, 2019It’s hard to blame Carter for his statement, especially since it potentially cost Ole Miss a chance to tie the game.Even in the event the PAC-12 comments on the situation, it doesn’t change what took place during the game.last_img read more
